INSECT REPELLENT  
Insect reprellents such as Peaceful Sleep, Tabard and Citronella Oil are strongly advised. Also mosquito coils. Although there are not many mosquitoes due to the onshore breeze from the sea, there are palm flies that bite and the best repellent for these is Citronella Oil. It is advisable to wear long sleeved shirts and light cotton longs on summer evenings
WHAT IS A DHOW?  
A coasting vessel of Arabia, East Africa, and the Indian Ocean. It generally has one mast and a lateen sail. In Mozambique, the locals use this for for various purposes, eg: transportation, fishing, tours and services for tourists for a reasonable fee. Inhambane's harbour still has the largest fleet of working dhow's to this day!

The very popular village of Bilene (Praia do Bilene) is approximately a 1 and a half hours drive from Maputo (+/- 180km) and is not too far Xai Xai. Whats unique about Bilene is that it sits on the edge of a salt water lagoon, called Sao Martinho that runs roughly 27km parallel to the Indian Ocean. Although the lagoon has a mouth that is always kept open for boat trips ...A huge sandbar is what seperates the lagoon and Ocean.

The lagoon's calm waters make it safe for swimming and ideal for a variety of watersports, such as Windsurfing, Kitesurfing, wake boading, Jet Skiing, kayaking and much more.
A 4x4 is required to tackle sandbanks that lead to ocean facing beaches.

Otherwise the village also offers a few restaurants, a bakery, cafe, curio shops and markets that will provide the basic needs. Beach bars have a great vibe and get festive on the weekend with good music and Mozambican drinks to enjoy.

Petrol and Diesel are both Availanble in Bilene, although if you are on a bugdet, best to fill your tanks up at either Maputo or Xai Xai if possible as it is more expensive to do so in Bilene.
