BEIRA ACCOMMODATION | MOZAMBIQUE

Explore South of Beira's coastline which is littered with old rusted hulls of beached and washed up shipwrecks from a past gone era - "the ship graveyard" - as they call it. Also be sure to Visit the famous Macuti lighthouse on the popular beach of Macuti.
If you have time in Beira and would like to explore some more beaches, then head off to Savane Beach (appoximately 30km North East of Beira - which should take about an hour to get there - 4x4's only!). Once almost reaching your destination you will have to park your car and take a boat trip to the beach itself.
Here the atmosphere is great! You can spend the day admiring the magnificent views while having lunch and a few drinks at a quaint restaurant.
Then you can either take the time walk along the beaches beautiful white sands or take a swim in the more azure waters of the small river estuarys that form here. Bird enthusiasts will be happy to know that this is also a great place for birdwatching. Accommodation is also available in Savane if you would like to stay the night.

There are so many stunning deserted beaches to explore North East of Beira ... River estuarys form dunes and sandbanks, creating little islands, shallow and crystal clear waters.... great for swimming in and watersport activities.

You will find many locals will approach you with buckets of prawns to sell. With a bit of negotiation (bargaining) skills ... you can buy these fresh prawns for much cheaper than what supermarkets will sell for! Of course these prawns are not devained but if are craving for Mozambique's famous delicious prawns ... then the effort of devaining is definitly worth your time!

There are some excellent seafood restaurants to dine at in and around Beira.
Traditional african & South African cuisines can be enjoyed at Bique's restaurant, which can be found on a beach, South East of the CBD.
Nautico's is also another lovely restaurant set on a beach, North East of Beira CBD.
Whats great about Nautico's is that it takes full and unashamed advantage of the beauty of Beira's waterfront.
Another recommended restaurant, is Kanimambo - downtown Beira ... serving excellent chinese food.
Otherwise tourists can enjoy many Restaurants, cafe's, local markets and curios shops in Beira's city centre.

The infrastructure in Beira is good ... therefore the facilities and services are also quite good. ATM machines, Banks, Exchange bureaus can be found.

There are a few tourist attractions in Beira, you must see!
If you are the historical type, then beira offers a few interesting/popular landmarks including the Cathedral of beira and the Grande Hotel Beira.
The Cathedral of Beira - a magnificent piece of architecture design ... had used stone from the ruins of a Fort in Sofala (Fort San Gaetano) to build the cathedral itself. Fort San Gaetano was erected right back in the early 16th centuary (1501) and apparantly it was the very first white man (European) built structure, in the whole of southern africa.
At the mouth of Pungoe river, you will find the old delapelated, Grand Hotel. Built by the portugese ... the once fancy hotel was never really opened when colonial rulers gave Mozambiques its independance. Today, nature has taken over the building & animals & squatters now inhabit the place.

Like the rest of Africa ... crime is a bit of a problem in most city's, including Beira ... so it is best not to carry a lot of important / expensive items with you - on hand (Jewellery, camera's, cell phones, etc.). Carry what nessecary, like a bit of money because you don't want to look like an obvious tourist, creating attention to potential muggers, who may take advantage.
Then its just a matter of been aware & alert and you should be fine!
