INSECT REPELLENT  
Insect reprellents such as Peaceful Sleep, Tabard and Citronella Oil are strongly advised. Also mosquito coils. Although there are not many mosquitoes due to the onshore breeze from the sea, there are palm flies that bite and the best repellent for these is Citronella Oil. It is advisable to wear long sleeved shirts and light cotton longs on summer evenings
WHAT IS A DHOW?  
A coasting vessel of Arabia, East Africa, and the Indian Ocean. It generally has one mast and a lateen sail. In Mozambique, the locals use this for for various purposes, eg: transportation, fishing, tours and services for tourists for a reasonable fee. Inhambane's harbour still has the largest fleet of working dhow's to this day!

Welcome to Lichinga ... Here we have an organised town settled 1.5km above sea level in the Niassa Province which is quite far north of Mozambique... and in and around the hills and beautiful lush vegetation (60km West) is the famous Lake Niassa (Lake Malawi).

Since the town is quite high in altitude, the temperatures are much lower and in the winter months ... temperatures can drop down to as low as 0°C. Summer temperature don't often exceed the 32 °C mark. Of course with the climate been colder ... the vegetation is different with Pine Tree plantations dominating the area!
Home to a population of about 112,000 people ... the town has all the basic needs and facilities. The town boasts an airport ... has bank facilities, fuel stations, an internet cafe, garages, car parts, hotels, good accommodation and a friendly community amongst the locals!

If you are interested, take drive to Meponda, which is a fishing village on Lake Niassa (Lake Malawi) - 60km from Lichinga. You will then be witnissing the 9th largest fresh-water lake in the world. If you go further North along the edge of the lake, there is a massive game reserve in the Manda Wilderness
