Welcome to one of Mozambique's most stunning holiday paradises, so much that we've decided to handpick Bartolomeu Dias Point as a "Hidden Gem" of magical places people aren't too familiar about.

Bartolomeu Dias Point Accommodation

80km north of Vilanculos, the exquisit beauty of this location is absolutely remarkable, perfect for honeymoons or for a romantic getaway. Bartolomeu Dias Point can really be described as an island holiday retreat, connected to mainland by a 6km narrow dune beach separating the azure blue ocean and the stunnning Govuro River delta lush in mangrove forests with tropical islands and river systems to endlessly explore.

Glorious deserted beaches stretch for miles and miles, perfect for taking long leisurely walks where one can see dolphins and whales breach nearby between June and November as they migrate to warmer waters. The quiet, tranquility and island-style remoteness of your surroundings will leave you feeling rejuvenated! And is the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Explore one of Mozambique's largest and most beautiful estuaries

The massive Govuro River delta offers visitors a myriad of fun activities and sight seeing opportunities from snorkeling, fishing, kayaking, island hopping, mangroves, bird watching to glorious boat excursions up the delta's intertwining river system past tiny estuary villages. Boat excursions are available on the island using "tinnies" (small motorized boats) or larger luxury charter boats. Otherwise, if you happen to own a boat, then this is definitely a holiday destination worth hauling a boat to.

Tip:

Kayak around the stunnning Govuro River delta estuary in Bartolomeu Dias Point is where one can explore numerous mangroves and tropical islands. Read more about Bartolomeu Dias Point

The estuary and ocean allows fishing enthusiasts the best of both worlds for all levels of experience, all year round. From offshore deep sea fishing, surf fishing, kayak fishing, estuary fishing and fly fishing. Fishing charters are available on the island otherwise don't forget to pack all your fishing gear.

Popular big game fishing catches include marlin, giant trevally, barracuda, dorado, kingfish, queenfish tuna to name a few. Please note that there are ongoing efforts to reestablish the marine life within these waters so most if not all lodges who offer fishing charter services have strict catch and release policies.

Scuba Diving

The Bazaruto Islands south east of Bartolomeu Dias Point is a hotspot for divers with over 18 dive sites to explore a remarkable biodiversity of marine life, anemones, illuminating soft and hard corals, overhangs, drop-offs with dive sightings of humpback whales (between July & September), whale sharks (between April & July), dolphins and the rare dugong.

Island Hop to Nearby Islands

The uninhabited island boasts amazing ocean views, surrounded by crystal clear and shallow turquoise waters. From Inhassoro 35km south, you can also explore Santa Carolina (known as "Paradise Island") which once hosted the popular tv show "Survivor" in 2010 and the rest of the Bazaruto Archipelago Islands.

The coast and river delta estuary attracts an amazing diversity of birdlife for all those bird watching and photography enthusiasts from a variety of waders including the terek sandpiper, grey plover, mongolian plover, ringed plover, bar-tailed godwit, crab plover to kingfishers, goliath heron, woolly necked stork, yellow billed stork, osprey, pelicans and flocks of flamingo's.

Inhassoro has a vibrant market where you can by all sorts of groceries and produce from the locals as well as interesting crafted curios, arts, clothes and a variety of other items to buy and take home.

The "Beach Highway"

As locals refer it to. This is the only way to reach Bartolomeu Dias Point - yup, on the beach but can only be driven on during low tide. So check the tidal times before you embark your travels or once you've reached Inhassoro where you'll branch onto this "highway" north. Very self-explanatory. A venue will be listed under this category if they offer a specific luxury, private honeymoon suite or because our admin has "hand-picked" the establishment to be perfect for such an occasion based on their location and facilities offered.
