Vilanculos Beach Lodge is situated in the small coastal town of Vilankulo, in the subtropical province of Inhambane, Mozambique. Vilankulo lies approximately 700kms north of Maputo and 500kms south of Beira. The town, with friendly people and a lively atmosphere, offers the perfect base from which to explore the picturesque Bazaruto Archipelago and the Bazaruto National Park. The marine reserve includes five islands - Santa Carolina (also known as Paradise Island), Bazaruto, Benguerra, Magaruque and Bangue.
The Archipelago offers some of the worlds best snorkelling, diving and big game fishing. The islands are pristine in their natural beauty and diverse ecologies. The coral reefs are profuse with a diversity of tropical fish and turtles and are amongst the most pristine in the Western Indian Ocean.

The lodge is constructed from natural indigenous elements of thatch and local hardwood simbire poles, which have been combined in perfect harmony with plaster walls and wood frame doors and windows. The result is the relaxed yet stylish finish. The property extends right on to the beach and the lodge buildings are set back about 100m up the ridge, overlooking the sea.

Accommodation is in privately appointed Luxury Bungalows constructed on ironwood stilts with "majeka" (local thatch) roofs and beautiful mahogany floors. We have 22 bungalows, 7 stand-alone A units and 14 adjoining B units, all of which have en-suite bathrooms with showers, mosquito nets, room safes, coffee and tea facilities, bath robes, a hairdryer and amenities. Vilanculos Beach Lodge has an exciting in-house activity centre, manned from 7 am to 6 pm. Guests can choose between stand-up paddle boards, kayaks, volleyball, beach soccer, racquetball, swing ball and petanque.
Pre-wedding the boys can go on a fishing trip, go for a joy ride on the jet skis or even learn kite surfing, whilst the girls can go for a pamper session in the spa, horse riding on the beach, shopping at the local market and end with a sunset picnic on the red dunes.
Post-wedding, we recommend a trip to the islands, including snorkelling, lunch and many memorable moments.
Again, we can include any of the above activities in your customised wedding package to fit your needs.

Our restaurant offers the perfect balance of Mozambican flavours with a modern twist. We serve breakfast daily from 7am to 10am after which our restaurant is available a la carte for any meal you may desire with the last meal request being 8pm.

Jet Ski:
Meandering around the Bay area on our Jet-ski's is the perfect way to visit sandbanks at low tide or take in the views of our Red dunes and other vistas at leisure. Dolphin spotting while out on the water is common and we have been lucky enough to spot a turtle or two. With the salty air, wind in your hair and streams of sunlight guiding your way, there is no better way to "walk on water."
You will be guided by the jetski instructor who will do a full briefing with you before starting those engines. Please bear in mind that we are in a protected bay area and we request that you remain vigilant of swimmers, boats, kayaks etc. on the water. Let's avoid 'ocean traffic jams'! Open water and jetskis are the perfect combinations for aquaholic adventures and pure freedom; nothing can beat the experience!

Scuba Diving
Experienced Guide:
Let the dive instructor guide you around the pristine coral reefs which abound with more than 200 species of fish. As the reefs range from shallow to deep, they offer the diver an abundance of marine life with a huge diversity of both coral and sea life.
Various Species:
In addition to most of the beautiful East Indian Ocean reefs, we have the privilege of seeing various species of Sharks, Whale sharks, Manta rays, Potato bass, Turtles, Guitar fish and various Rays and Eels. Humpback Whales frequent our waters between the months of July and October.
Snorkeling:
For the non-diver there is always the opportunity to take a snorkelling trip to the amazing Two Mile Reef. Here one may appreciate the beauty and colors of a coral reef and the abundant marine life it supports without having to use scuba gear.
Fishing
Guided Skipper:
Go fishing in and around the prolific waters of the Bazaruto Archipelago. Let one of our local skippers expertly guide you to one of the current fishing hot spots aboard one of the many fishing vessels available.
Many Ways to Catch Them:
Game fishing, big game fishing, jigging, popping or just having some fun with light tackle, fishing is excellent all year round.
Big Fishing:
October to February produces three species of Marlin, mainly Black, Blue and Striped. For the Sail fish enthusiast the best months are May to July. Fly fishing is available from the shores of one of the idyllic islands, the sand banks around the Archipelago or out at sea.

Backpackers Lodge:
Those who are on a tight budget should keep a lookout for this category icon. This type of establishment offers dormitory (shared) bedroom accommodation with other "Backpackers" generally using either single beds or bunk beds with a communal kitchen and shared ablutions.
Bar On-Site:
Meaning the venue has its own bar on-site with staff serving alcohol/non-alcohol beverages and perhaps "pub-grub" included. They may offer satellite TV for bar patrons to follow the latest sporting fixtures live and may also host live music on certain days / evenings.
Bed & Breakfast:
If an establishment has this icon, this means they either include breakfast in their rates or offer the opportunity for you to choose to include breakfast during your stay which is usually served to guests in an on-site breakfast room dinette or restaurant. If a venue is listed under this category, then they either offer guests the choice of a full board meal plan during their stay or their rates by default include full board meals. a lot of these establishments will have private personal chefs serving guests top class cuisine.
Group Accommodation:
Because this is a popular search and request amongst many, we have created this specific category for exactly that - group accommodation which is very much the same as our Holiday Homes category. These are establishments that can cater and accommodate for large groups of 8 people and up in the same house / unit offering most self catering facilities as if you are "home away from home".
Guest House:
Similar to a typical B&B, a Guest House is usually a private house offering very few accommodation units all within the main building structure (or some seperately). Some serve home cooked meals within their in-house dining room specially catered to seat all their guests and offer a lounge area where fellow travellers can interact, socialize and share stories.
Holiday Home:
This type of accommodation is usually ideal for large groups of people going on holiday being a "home away from home" with numerous bedrooms, a fully equipped kitchen for your self catering needs, lounge, toilets, braai/BBQ area, some with a swimming pool and some offering exclusive privacy.

Very self-explanatory. A venue will be listed under this category if they offer a specific luxury, private honeymoon suite or because our admin has "hand-picked" the establishment to be perfect for such an occasion based on their location and facilities offered. However, you are the best judge when it comes to planning that special getaway with your loved one anyway. Pssst ... and it doesn't have to be expensive either to enjoy, right?!
Hotel:
A hotel is generally a large premises that can accommodate a large amount of guests in many adjacent rooms grading from standard 2 sleeper units to "executive" luxury suites offering more in-room space and facilities. They generally have a restaurant and bar on-site for all day meals and drinks (quite often offered on a buffet dining basis). Other on-site facilities may include a swimming pool, gym, spa, in/outdoor entertainment area for kids, a conference / wedding room for meetings / ceremonies and a small shop.
