Chamber of Secrets is one of the most picturesque and unique dive sites off the Manta Coast offering divers a playground in terms of it's topographical characteristics and it's abundance of tropical fish species that inhabit the beautiful reef. Chamber of Secrets is shaped like a horseshoe and starts at a depth of 14 meters where Open water divers need to have good buoyancy control to get the most out of their dive experience.
The reef is almost something out of a fantasy story book like an old suncken ruin with amazing 'architecture' to explore where you could just imageine a secret treasure chest waiting to be opened up. Divers will approach the reef like little kids on a playground, eager to start exploring but not knowing where to begin! The centre of the dive site is a flat white sand area where 2 tall pillars of rock boulders beautifully decorated with colourful soft and hard corals stand tall, whilst beneath you, blue spotted and whip-tail stingrays can be seen frequently scouting the sea bed for food but try not to miss the odd camouflaged flounder and guitar ray that hide in the sand.
The huge ragged walls of the horseshoe shaped reef surrounds the gardens forming a natural perimeter reaching up to 7m in height where lizardfish, Lionfish and trumpetfish can be spotted swimming up and down amongst a wall filled with ledges, cracks and crevices home to resident moray eels, porcelain crabs, nudibranchs, cowries and the fascinating periclimenes shrimp specie.
The Southern end of the reef features a magnificent archway with the top of the archway reaching 4m in height where schools of trumpet and surgeon fish can be spotted swimming in and out of the numerous holes found in the archway and at the base of the reef wall, divers are treated to yet another amazing feature called the chambers. Here a beautiful maze of gullies intertwine though 6 amazing swim-throughs that encircles the entire reef.
During peak season (summer), the Chamber of Secrets is a favourite reef along the migrating route for whale shark encounters where these massive creatures venture near the reef to feed on plankton and krill.
The Chamber of Secrets is a top class dive site and is highly recommended for all open water divers during their visit to the Manta Coast. Some divers have even dived this reef more than once to either finish off what they didn't explore or to just experience it again.
