Giants Castle Dive Site in the Manta Coast, Mozambique

Giants Castle Reef (often named Galleria Reef by various dive camps) is regarded by many experienced divers as one of the best drift dives off the Manta Coast when ocean currents are ideal. Starting at 26 meters in depth, Giants Castle is massive, extending for more than 350 meters in a north to south direction with a ledge on the eastern side of the reef dropping 7 meters vertically down to the seabed at 35 meters in depth. Ocean currents generally run north or south so when conditions are perfect, divers can enjoy an almost effortless and natural tour of the reef wall with various ledges, overhangs and crevices which are home to some of the largest potato bass and stingrays ever seen in the area - hence why the reef got it's name, Giants Castle.

Amongst the giants of the reef, a beautiful display of schooling bannerfish illuminate the reef whilst several manta cleaning stations service a variety of stingrays species such as the small-eyed stingray, eagle ray, devil ray and manta ray that is commonly spotted gliding around the seabed or found hovering near a cleaning station waiting to get 'groomed' by various cleaner fish. Turning your attention to numerous cracks and crevices will further reward you with sightings of frog fish, seamoths and a few resident eels like the ribbon, geometric and white mouth morays that tend to poke their heads out of their holes to see who's passing by.

Although a rich marine life exists on the reef, the open waters of Giants Castle is also a major attraction for it's abundance of pelagic fish, especially during descends and ascends! Massive shoals of kingfish, barracuda and pick handle pike fish can seen though uncommon sightings of blue marlin and sailfish is what makes this dive site so spectacular and unique.
