Welcome to the dreamy island of Ilha do Fogo (Fire Island) located 78km NEE of Pebane mainland Mozambique. This tropical island is a paradise for diving enthusiasts looking to explore unique locations with the island offering divers 150km of stunning coral reefs teeming with exotic marine life and corals.
The island is surrounded and protected by a spectacular 5.8km² reef offering calmer ocean currents with other neighboring islands and reefs of Ilha Silva, Ilha Coroa, Ilha Casuarina and Ilha Epidendro all within 40km of each other.
Persistent ongoing projects on the island are brought to the table to protect the reef's ecosystem and some critically endangered marine life from past poachers such as the green and hawksbill turtles.
The island is located along the migratory corridor where magnificent sightings of the whale shark which is also known to be endangered can be spotted along with manta rays and other apex predators such as the hammerhead shark and bull shark.
Visitors can expect to see the gentle giants of the ocean such as the humpback and southern rite whale which majestically migrate near and past Ilha do Fogo to warmer waters from as early as May through to December.
Divers will thoroughly enjoy a once in a lifetime underwater ocean adventure where "cities" of over 150km of unexplored coral-rich reefs with beautiful colours and anemones that illuminate the ocean depths. An amazing diversity of over 450 species of soft and hard corals has been recorded to date where seagrasses and 25kms of mangroves exhibit, as well as steep overhangs that'll take your breath away!
Your diving adventure will give you the opportunity to spot the rare dugong, dolphins, hammerhead sharks, bull sharks, rays, scorpionfish, giant lobsters, various nudibranchs, powder blue tang surgeonfish, orange skunk clownfish, molluscs, octopus, reef triggerfish and an abundance of other invertebrates and tropical marinelife.
Diving enthusiasts will be ecstatic to know the possibility of old wooden hull clipper type shipwrecks dating as far back as the spice trade era waiting to be discovered and explored for the very first time. These prospects makes for an all for more interesting diving experience. A magnetometer reading near the island detected what is presumed to be the 1644 shipwreck of Santo AntĂ³nio clipper (cargo ship). More than 40 shipwrecks have been discovered between Ilha do Fogo and Ilha de Moçambique further north (approximately 350km).
±10km South East of Ilha do Fogo is the visible Dutch shipwreck of Bredenhof which wrecked off Ilha Silva back in 1753. The ship was a Dutch East-India Company (VOC or Vereenigde Oostindische Compagnie) which contained silver ingots, lead ingots, copper coins, cannons. In 1986, an excavation company discovered a treasure load of silver ingots and copper coins which was taken and auctioned in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Could there still be more treasure to be found?

Shallow, calm and crystal clear waters on the Southern side of the island allow for an endless snorkeling adventure and is also ideal for novice scuba divers. Guaranteed sightings within these shallow waters include a myriad of clark’s clownfish, blue tangs, trumpetfish, wrasse, angelfish, butterflyfish, triggerfish, unicornfish, goatfish, lionfish and if you're lucky, the green and hawksbill turtles that love the protection of the reef where they feed off seagrass and algae.
You will be fortunate enough to witness the endangered green and hawksbill turtles come to shore to lay their eggs and nest ... but better yet, see their hatchlings break out their shells to begin a new life around the islands. Leisurely barefoot walks around the island will greet you with dozens of pink ghost crabs and sally lightfoot crabs burrowing and scrambling along the beach sand and rocky outcrops.
Deep sea fishing charters off the island is another must for those looking for a tantalizingly tasty evening meal fresh from the ocean. However visitors to the island must understand that there are rules and restrictions to what certain fish can be caught, kept and cooked such as dorado, yellowfin tuna and queen mackerel.
Ilha do Fogo is the perfect island holiday getaway and simply exploring the peaceful island by foot is a great way to de-stress from the hustle and bustle of everyday norms. Kayaking within the bordered reef is also another past time favorite for guests staying over.

Remember, some establishments charge either per unit or per person sharing. If the rate is per unit, then you'll see we have conveniently divided the rate to what-it-would-be per person sharing on their advert under the "Rates" tab.
Some establishments charge in different currencies such as the US Dollar, South African Rands or Mozambican Meticais (Mt).
So we've provided a handy currency converter tool at the bottom left-hand side of your screen (or under 'Useful Tools' if you're on a mobile device) to convert these currencies into yours.

Meaning the venue has its own bar on-site with staff serving alcohol/non-alcohol beverages and perhaps "pub-grub" included. They may offer satellite TV for bar patrons to follow the latest sporting fixtures live and may also host live music on certain days / evenings.
If an establishment has this icon, this means they either include breakfast in their rates or offer the opportunity for you to choose to include breakfast during your stay which is usually served to guests in an on-site breakfast room dinette or restaurant. Some B&B's offer basic / light (continental) breakfasts, Full English breakfasts or buffet style breakfast options.
Either they offer camping grounds for you to pitch your own tent if on a tight budget and / or they have their own pre-setup tents for you to camp in, some offering private facilities (aka "Glamping") within their tents such as beds, a fridge, sofa and bathroom.
This means the establishment has a dedicated hall room specially arranged and equipped with most facilities to host important business meetings, teambuilding events or any other occasion alike.
Goes without saying. Any establishment marked with this icon and listed under this category offers facilities for those who have reduced mobility. Full Board means breakfast, lunch and dinner (also known as "All Inclusive"). If a venue is listed under this category, then they either offer guests the choice of a full board meal plan during their stay or their rates by default include full board meals. a lot of these establishments will have private personal chefs serving guests top class cuisine.
Because this is a popular search and request amongst many, we have created this specific category for exactly that - group accommodation which is very much the same as our Holiday Homes category. These are establishments that can cater and accommodate for large groups of 8 people and up in the same house / unit offering most self catering facilities as if you are "home away from home".
Similar to a typical B&B, a Guest House is usually a private house offering very few accommodation units all within the main building structure (or some seperately). Some serve home cooked meals within their in-house dining room specially catered to seat all their guests and offer a lounge area where fellow travellers can interact, socialize and share stories.
This type of accommodation is usually ideal for large groups of people going on holiday being a "home away from home" with numerous bedrooms, a fully equipped kitchen for your self catering needs, lounge, toilets, braai/BBQ area, some with a swimming pool and some offering exclusive privacy.
Very self-explanatory. A venue will be listed under this category if they offer a specific luxury, private honeymoon suite or because our admin has "hand-picked" the establishment to be perfect for such an occasion based on their location and facilities offered. However, you are the best judge when it comes to planning that special getaway with your loved one anyway. Pssst ... and it doesn't have to be expensive either to enjoy, right?!
A hotel is generally a large premises that can accommodate a large amount of guests in many adjacent rooms grading from standard 2 sleeper units to "executive" luxury suites offering more in-room space and facilities. They generally have a restaurant and bar on-site for all day meals and drinks (quite often offered on a buffet dining basis). Other on-site facilities may include a swimming pool, gym, spa, in/outdoor entertainment area for kids, a conference / wedding room for meetings / ceremonies and a small shop.
This indicates that the establishment has a small / large restaurant on-site for their guests (they may also accept walk-ins for non-guests) or they have on-board catering staff serving guests in their own private space or in a designated dining area.
This type of establishment offers guests facilities required to cater / cook on their own terms whether it be within a holiday home for example or on communal grounds.
This means the establishment has spa facilities and services offered to guests who are looking for personal treatments during their vacation.
These business services can range from swimming with dolphins, horse riding, city tours, boat tours, island tours, dhow tours to game drives and more. You'll have to click on their advert to find out more and what they have to offer.
This means, the venue has all the on-site facilities and catering services to host large or small weddings and ceremonies. Depending on the size of the wedding, some may have enough units to accommodate all wedding guests.
